Instructions
Step 1: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking pan with foil for easy cleanup.
Step 2: In a skillet, melt butter with olive oil over medium heat. Add sliced onions and cook for 5–7 minutes until softened. Stir in brown sugar and apples; cook for 3 more minutes.
Step 3: Spread the onion-apple mixture in the foil-lined baking pan. Nestle the bratwursts on top.
Step 4: Pour the beer evenly into the pan. Cover tightly with foil and bake for 25 minutes.
Step 5: Remove foil and bake for another 20 minutes, flipping brats once, until browned and beer is mostly reduced.
Step 6: Serve hot with mustard or crusty rolls if desired.
Notes
For extra depth, try using a dark ale or adding a sprig of thyme while baking. Leftovers make great sandwiches the next day.
